The best time to visit Key West is from March to May as the crowds are lesser and hotel rates are cheaper. The weather is also lovely for sightseeing, similar to winter's blissful 70s and 80s. If you are a budget traveler, avoid traveling during the winter months as Key West can get crowded and overall the rates are much steeper.
There are options galore when it comes to getting around Key West. Old Town is quite small: two miles wide by four miles long. You can easily explore the city by walking, bicycling, taxis, electric rental cars, mopeds, pedi-cabs, city buses, and trolleys. So even if you don’t have your own transport, there are plenty of options to enjoy sightseeing.
Key West boasts several prominent attractions, such as the Southernmost Point Buoy, Mallory Square, renowned for its sunset celebration, Duval Street, a hub for shopping and nightlife, the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, and the Key West Aquarium.
While visiting Key West, be sure not to miss out on sampling the renowned Key Lime Pie, flavorful conch fritters, delectable Cuban sandwiches, fresh seafood delights, and the delightful key lime-based cocktails, such as the Key Lime Martini or Key West Rum Runner.
Key West presents a plethora of outdoor activities to enjoy, including snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing charters, sunset cruises, kayaking, paddleboarding, and jet skiing. Additionally, you have the opportunity to venture to the Dry Tortugas National Park, which can be accessed by ferry or seaplane, offering exceptional snorkeling experiences and the chance to explore historical sites.
